The Firebird, based on Russian folklore and with sumptuous choreography by Mikhail Fokine, was the work which put Stravinsky on the musical map in 1910. Les Noces, Bronislava Nijinska's startling masterpiece, combines a pounding score with elements of modernist, constructivist theatre in its depiction of the private and public rituals surrounding a Russian peasant wedding.
